Product development at Kents is a hands-on process.
Science aside, the basic rules of the birds and the bees apply: Pollinator in hand, the plant breeder scrapes pollen from the stamen of the chosen plant, then gently taps it onto the pistil of the bromeliad he wants to crossbreed. Voila! Pollination.

Success is not a simple process. While the act may take seconds, the result can take years – years and generations of plants to find the right mix of varieties to result in a viable commercial plant.

Simply put, plant heritage and breeding are the Kent difference and the underlying reason Kents has become known as...the Bromeliad Professionals.

The Kent Legacy

Acreage may be the yardstick that defines Kent’s Bromeliad Nursery, Inc. as the nation’s largest producer of this exotic tropical plant, but don’t be fooled. Size alone is meager measurement of the scope, sweat and passion that transformed this 1,000,000 square-foot nursery dedicated to one star plant - the exotically beautiful bromeliad.

Kent’s grows more than 100 bromeliad varieties, and holds patents to more than 25 hybrids. They are cultivated to capitalize on the natural hardiness of the jungle plant. The object is to create a plant than can thrive in the concrete jungle- survive indoors in low light, be shamefully neglected by its human caregivers, and still somehow look beautiful.

Each year Kents participates in the Society of American Florist outstanding Varieties Competition, the premier showcase of the industry’s top fresh products. Including 2005 competition, Kents has been awarded 21 ribbons of excellence shown throughout this website.
